Focus Group Session
A Focus Group session was conducted with eight volunteer participants that were enrolled in an undergraduate web design course. Each participant recieved pieces of candy as thier reward for taking part in the group.
Below is a heirarchy of the main issues discussed by the participants.
- No hierarchy
- Page to long
- Links:
- Too many on single page
- Unable to distinguish between link and underlined text
- Different color for links from text
- Make it obvious when you are going to leave the site
- Image links with same text link
- Multiple links to the same sections
- Incorporate Search Bar
- Site Map page
- Need a TOC (table of contents)
- Footer navigation - main categories with flyout
- Needs more structure, sections and categories
Navigation:
- Too much on a single page
- Very, very, very repetitive very repetitive repetitive
- Too much negative content
- Poor imagery, unrelated imagery
- Better photo-shopping of the images
- “More text than in the bible”
- Make sure content is correct – “nine commandments”, references
- Less imagery, more appropriate imagery
- Better connotation of phrases
- Categorical information
- Sections scattered throughout page
- Include bible passages
- Bulleted Lists
- Separate sections into different pages & see navigation
Content:
- Bad Background Image
- Make fonts / headings / size consistent
- Sections need to be more clearly defined
- Inconsistent theme across pages – layout, design, colors, fonts
- Lighter font color on dark background
- Maintain 3x3x3 standard – 3 colors, 3 fonts, 3 sizes
- Overwhelming content – divide into sections and pages
- Line-up related content / sections
- Reduce amount of text = scrolling
- Differentiate links and text
Design:
- American Holocaust & Abortion?
- Better off just reading the bible
- Simplify everything
- Hell, have a picture of flames fixed at bottom of page
